About Mo
I’m a 1700-rated player (top 1% on chess.com) with several years of playing and study since the COVID lockdowns. I specialise in helping beginners and intermediate players build strong fundamentals, improve their thinking process, and gain confidence in real games.
I teach in a practical and easy-to-understand way - focusing on the exact mistakes and challenges that most players face as they improve. I remember exactly what it's like to be stuck at an Elo rating, and how to break through that plateau.
Alongside chess, I’m a Software Engineer and have experience teaching both junior engineers and English as a second language. This means my lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to how you learn best - whether that’s one-to-one or in a group.
I have an Enhanced DBS check, I'm happy to teach children with or without parent supervision.

Mo is an excellent chess teacher, he is able to take complex concepts and explain them in a way that is easy to understand, and in a fun way! He pushes me to stretch myself while also respecting the level of commitment that I'm happy putting into chess. My chess has improved so much since being taught by Mo, I can only wholeheartedly recommend him as a chess teacher!
I had a chess lesson with Mo. As a beginner, he explained the basic rules and objectives of the game very clearly, so I came away with lots of knowledge to be able to practice on my own. We also played a game (with help), which made me understand the way the game progresses. I recommend Mo as he was very knowledgeable, and I enjoyed the session.
