About Julia
I have been giving French lessons since 1975 and have taught hundreds of students. My students have gotten high grades and gone on to college, many majoring in French! Several of them actually moved to France and they write that they were quite happy with the assistance I provided. I lived in France for two and a half years and totally immersed myself in French culture. During this period, I got a degree from the Sorbonne in French Civilization and spent a year working in various jobs--all in French. At the Sorbonne I studied in their language lab and perfected my accent, so that now when I speak with French people they think I'm French!

My overarching teaching method is to encourage students to speak conversationally in French and to write and read fluently. Depending on a student's needs, I work with or without a textbook and an anthology or a novels. Reading intriguing novels is a great method of drawing the student into the material. I get students to a level where they can read and understand even if they don't get every word.
