About Harry

I study French and Spanish at Durham University, having achieved a First in first year. I also achieved a First in every oral examination this year, as well as attaining 70/72 and 58/60 for the oral at French and Spanish A-Level respectively.

I want to help others develop their language ability, no matter what level you are currently at. I think languages are dying and people largely feel under-confident in their ability, and so I want to help encourage you to find enjoyment in languages and build your confidence!

Outside of my degree, I play the drums in a band and my favourite band is Rage Against the Machine.

About the lesson

I can help with anything from oral, writing, listening, and reading.

I am more specialised in Edexcel for French and AQA for Spanish, but am more than happy to help with any course!

For reading, we would use past papers and would unpack certain techniques that would help you achieve top marks. These include looking for unnecessary information and reading the questions before so you know what to look out for.

For listening, we would also use past papers and hone in on exam technique. Exposure and repeated practice is going to be the greatest help here, and apart from slow-news in French/Spanish at GCSE, I can recommend podcasts that greatly helped me at A-Level.

For writing, we would go through set phrases/structures that examiners like to see that will help you get into those higher bands. Any help with grammar is also available. This can also be applied for A-Level essays.

For oral, we would practise talking in the target language as like with listening, exposure and practice is the best to help you grow. If you need help with your photograph at GCSE or your IRP at A-Level, I can always look at this before the lesson and create practice questions for you!

For the essay part of A-Level, I will be most help if you are studying 'Les Choristes' and 'L'Etranger' for French, and 'Volver' and 'La Casa de Bernarda Alba' for Spanish. However, if you require any help in this area, I am more than happy to research for the book or film you are studying!
