About Helene
My name is Hélène, I am originally from Brittany, France, and I am a French and Music teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience to all ages and in diverse environments.
My original degrees are in Music and Literature. After falling in love with San Francisco and moving to California, I taught French and Music in French-American schools while pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter. I now specialize in private and group instruction in Los Angeles. My experience includes accent coaching off and on set, translation and interpretation. I believe in the parallels between language and music learning, fostering rapid progress tailored to students' needs. Working with children, adults and colleagues of different backgrounds and cultures, I have learnt to adapt to various publics, develop sound educational plans, and use patience and empathy to relate to my students and enhance their learning.

I tailor my approach to my public and the situation, as I know needs will be different whether teaching a group Beginner French, helping an adult at Intermediate level refine their conversational skills, preparing an actor for an audition in French, or supporting a High School student with their course load. My goal is always for my students to feel comfortable and empowered where they are. Whatever the texts used or material involved, I always balance our time between exploring grammatical concepts, growing vocabulary, refining listening skills, and speaking practice. I use written text, audio and video for a well-rounded language experience, as well as various manuals depending on the situation. I favor clear and engaging manuals when needed. Since each person learns differently, I use my experience to adapt my instruction to my students’ needs while making sure they have everything they require to feel confident in achieving their goals.
