About Raphaëlle
I am a native French speaker currently studying at ESCP Business School, after studying law at Paris Panthéon-Assas University and the University of Oxford. My legal background has given me a particularly strong command of written French and taught me to express ideas clearly, precisely and in a well-structured way — skills that I enjoy passing on to my students. Having studied in both France and the UK, I am also very familiar with the challenges English speakers can face when learning French.
I have experience tutoring both children and university students, as well as teaching French at Oxford as part of a language programme between colleges.
I am happy to teach different ages and levels, and I would adapt the lessons depending on whether the aim is to improve conversational French, prepare for school or university, work on writing and grammar, or simply become more comfortable speaking French

I like to adapt my lessons to each student, depending on their level, what they want to improve and, most importantly, what they are interested in.
Rather than only working from textbooks, I like to choose a topic for each lesson and use real French material as a starting point. This could be a news story, a newspaper article, a radio extract, a video, or something related to the student’s own interests. From there, we can work on conversation, vocabulary, grammar or writing, depending on what the student wants to focus on.
For someone who wants to improve their spoken French, for example, we could listen to a short radio extract or read an article and then discuss it together. For someone who wants to work more on written French, I can use the same material for grammar, writing or translation exercises.
I also think it is important to regularly go back over what we have covered, so I would include small vocabulary tests, translation exercises or short written exercises from time to time. The idea is not to make the lessons feel like school, but to make sure that new vocabulary and grammar actually stick.
