About Daniel

I'm Daniel, a native French speaker who grew up in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and now lives in London. French is my mother tongue, the language I was educated in and still think in, and Swiss French is known for being clear and easy to follow, which makes it a good accent to learn from, particularly for beginners.

I've also worked as a maths teacher for children, which is where I learnt most of what I know about teaching. Maths and languages present the same challenge: students often arrive convinced they're simply "not good at it," and the real work is undoing that before anything else can happen. It taught me to explain things in more than one way, to notice quickly when someone has quietly stopped following, and to keep lessons structured so that every session builds on the last rather than starting from scratch.

That's the approach I bring to French. Lessons are prepared in advance and follow a clear plan, but there's always room to slow down and go over something again, progress matters more than getting through the material.

With children, the priority is confidence. Once they're no longer worried about making mistakes, everything else follows far more easily. With adults, the turning point is usually the first conversation where they stop translating in their head and simply talk.

About the lesson

Bonjour! I'm a native French speaker offering lessons in London, online or in person, for children and adults at any level.

What I do differently is simple: I don't improvise. Before we start, I'll ask what you actually want French for: passing a GCSE, holding a conversation on holiday, working with French colleagues, helping your child catch up, and I'll build a proper programme around it. Every lesson is prepared in advance and picks up exactly where the last one left off, so you're always building on something rather than starting over.

You'll get:

-Lessons planned and structured around your goal, not a generic textbook
-A clear programme we follow, so you can see your progress lesson by lesson
-Materials and practice to work through between sessions
-Real spoken French from someone who speaks it natively, accent, rhythm, and the way people actually talk

I teach all levels, from complete beginners to exam preparation and advanced conversation. With children, I keep lessons active and encouraging, confidence comes first, and the grammar follows much more easily once it's there.
