About Susan
I am a qualified teacher of French and basic Spanish, trained in UK schools and currently doing part-time supply teaching work and private GCSE French tutoring. In my career I have I tutored and taught both French and English, individually and in groups, as a TEFL tutor, private French tutor, a franchisee for Le Club Francais fun French clubs, and as a French teacher in an International Primary School. On return to UK I qualified as a professional information specialist, part of which involved teaching information skills, first in secondary schools and then I moved on to training medical and nursing staff in the National Health Service, helping them to find up-to-date medical literature to support their work. I have now returned to languages teaching, my first love, and gained my PGCE and QTS, so I can work part time, as I develop a small business to use the creative arts to enhance language teaching.

I base my classes on individual student needs and but hope to foster in all students a love of other cultures as well as the language itself. I believe learning a language is a fun and creative activity, It requires perseverance but is well within the grasp of anyone. The key is to make the process both fun and challenging, so people see what they can achieve and enjoy getting there.
If a student wishes to pass an exam I will take the examination specifications and find creative and fun ways in the scheme of work to ensure the student develops the knowledge (grammar, vocabulary and syntax) and skills (including memorisation techniques, along with speaking, listening , reading and writing skills ) needed to pass. This would include examination practice and fostering creative use of language so the student felt prepared for the examination. Also I would use the media, literature and real materials to look at francophone culture and pursue any interests the student had (drama, film, sport etc.) to engage their interest in French.
If a student wants to learn a language for leisure or holidays I would focus on the productive language that would be useful to them, and their own hobbies and interests to develop language skills at the appropriate level through use of real materials, media and the creative arts. Depending on the students approach to learning their might be less explicit use of the grammatical base of the language and more focus on language for a purpose, particularly speaking and listening.

If a lesson is cancelled 24 hours beforehand the fee will not be charged. As I may not be able to fill the slot with less than 24 hours notice, I would otherwise need to charge the full fee.
Multiple lessons (no refund for missed appointments) could attract a discount, if paid in advance.
