About Katie

Regarding me, I am a recent French and Linguistics MA(Hons) graduate from the University of Edinburgh. I graduated with a 1st and ranked top of my class, having achieved an 8 in AQA GCSE French and an A* in AQA A-level French prior to this. As part of my degree I spent a year studying at the University of Strasbourg, which was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Long story short, I've spent a lot of time learning French in an academic setting, with all its challenges and triumphs!

At 14 French was one of my hardest GCSE subjects given how different it was to everything else I was learning. The improvement process seemed so gradual in comparison to subjects where revising successfully only required the memorisation of information. Despite this I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Learning a language opens so many doors and leaves you with such valuable practical skills, it's also such a great way to boost your confidence!

I myself have a younger sister who is currently studying GCSE French and who I tutor on an informal basis, and I have two years experience tutoring GCSE chemistry. I absolutely loved tutoring Chemistry and it is for this reason I decided to expand and tutor the subject that I have spent my whole academic life studying.

About the lesson

One of the key benefits of tutoring is the possibility to tailor the sessions to the student and this is something I embrace, particularly when it comes to language learning. My sessions aim first to hone in on the skills that a student most needs to develop before creating a flexible plan to achieve their goals. This could be through the revision and practice of cornerstone skills in grammar, through improving confidence and fluency in oral French, or perhaps by honing a student's exam techniques. Everyone is different!

Just as I am flexible in my teaching content and style, I am equally happy to teach whatever length sessions suit the student, 45mins to 1h30mins being typical.

I am looking primarily to tutor GCSE students, but I am also happy to tutor A-level students or even secondary-age students who haven't yet begun their GCSEs.
