About Candice
I'm a former journalist who taught English in Macau, 60km from Hong Kong, Asia, for a year. I'm based in Uitenhage, just outside Port Elizabeth and have very flexible hours. I have a lot of experience with languages as English and Afrikaans formed part of my degree. I also taught both languages at high school level before pursuing a career in media and later moving overseas. I received numerous awards for both languages at school and university level. I live and breathe languages and I believe that my journalistic background equips me with the expertise needed on all levels to be an English tutor.

My teaching methods are very practical and interactive. I focus on learners between the ages of 6 and 16 years old and believe in supporting and motivating, but not spoon feeding them, so to speak. I am a great supporter of reading continuously and having students point out their problem areas so that we could focus on that. Also, working on past exam papers are always a great way of helping students understand better.

Details
My rates vary according to the distance I have to travel if I am required to offer the lesson at the student's house, to accommodate for petrol since I'll be using my own transport. If I have to travel between 40-50km from my house, I'll require R100 extra. Also, if a student won't be able to attend a scheduled lesson for whatever reason, I would appreciate if the student could notify me of the cancellation at least an hour and a half before the scheduled lesson. No fees would then be charged for a cancelled lesson. However, If I am not notified of a cancellation an hour and a half in advance, 50% of the lesson fee will be payable.
