About Yan

I'm a former Division 1 tennis player and full-time coach based in Chicago with over 1,000 hours of coaching logged in the past year alone. I work with players of all levels - from complete beginners picking up a racket for the first time to competitive players preparing for tournaments.

My coaching is built around one thing: real, visible improvement. I focus on fundamentals, footwork, and match-ready technique - not just hitting balls back and forth. Every session has a purpose.

I've worked with 100+ students across Chicago, coaching outdoors at Grant Park and Skinner Park. I have 25+ five-star reviews on PlayYourCourt and Thumbtack, and my students consistently come back season after season - which I'm most proud of.

If you're serious about improving your game, I'd love to work with you.

About the lesson

My lessons are fully personalized based on each player's level, goals, and learning style - beginners building fundamentals, recreational players improving consistency, and competitive players focused on match performance.

A typical session covers technical work (strokes, footwork, serve), situational drills, and live point play. I focus on the details most coaches overlook - timing, spacing, shot selection, and decision-making under pressure.

Sessions are available in 1hr, 1.5hr, and 2hr formats at Grant Park and Skinner Park. Training packages are available for students committed to long-term improvement.

Perfect! Super nice coach, he will actually teach you the steps and positions in a very detailed way. Not just feeding the ball to you. I recommend this guy for all lessons.

Perfect! Working with Yan was a pleasure. My first lesson composed of him breaking down the fundamental swing and immediately pinpointing flaws in my swing. We did a couple of drills on forehand and backhand and concluded with a short rally. Yan keeps the concepts simple but meaningful. I look forward to seeing my progression with him.

Perfect! I had my first lesson with Yan as a complete beginner, and it was a really great experience. He was very patient and made sure I felt comfortable from the start. He explained the basics clearly and broke things down in a way that was easy to follow. I never felt rushed or overwhelmed, which I really appreciated as someone new to tennis.

Yan also provided helpful feedback throughout the lesson and adjusted the pace according to my progress. Overall, it was a very positive first lesson, and I would definitely recommend him to other beginners!

Perfect! I’ve been training with Yan and it’s been a really good experience. He’s very professional and pays close attention to details, especially when it comes to technique. He’s quick to point out small mistakes and explain how to fix them, which helped me improve a lot. The sessions are also tailored to what you need, so it never feels generic. He’s patient, easy to work with, and just a genuinely nice person. Definitely recommend！

Yan's response
Dahne is a really hardworking student and always brings a great attitude to the court. She has a natural touch and feel for the ball, which makes her game fun to watch and gives her a strong base to build on. There are still a few areas we’ll keep working on, like consistency and movement, but that’s all part of the process. She’s improving steadily and putting in the effort, which is what matters most.

(10 out of 5 stars) Yan is absolutely the best tennis coach I've ever had. He is incredibly attentive to details and technique, making it easy to understand how to play correctly. His professionalism and ability to describe the right way to perform each move are unparalleled. Training with Yan is not just effective but also enjoyable. He is the coach you want to have if you're serious about improving your game. I am planning to take tennis as my new serious hobby and aim to participate in amateur contests next year. I've heard that Yan is already preparing other players for these competitions, which speaks volumes about his expertise and dedication. To clarify, I did not receive any bonuses for writing this review. Yan is genuinely an amazing coach, and I don't think you need to look for anyone else. Highly recommended!
