About Mathilde
Bonjour! My name is Mathilde and I have a passion for languages! I grew up in Brittany on the Northwest coast of France and I did my English literature studies in Paris at La Sorbonne. I also studied literature, translation and language structure at UCL, and London has stayed my home ever since. My students say of me that I am patient, supportive and friendly. My approach is always calm and I make sure to create a pressure-free environment where my students can make steady progress and gain confidence in speaking. I believe languages should be an asset, not a barrier — a way to open doors and connect with people. As well as giving private lessons to students from all levels and ages, I also work as an EAL co-ordinator in a secondary school, where I support students whose first language isn't English and help them adapt to the British curriculum. I also worked for several years as a language assistant and I prepared KS4 students for their Spanish and French GCSE exams. I am currently studying Italian!

In the classroom and in private tuition, I ensure that students understand every aspect of the lesson. I adapt to the specific abilities and needs of each learner, working at their pace and using the four pillars of language learning: listening and reading comprehension, speaking and writing. My lessons are structured to ensure that comprehension is achieved without difficulty. Grammar rules and key vocabulary are studied and practised to facilitate more in-depth work. Where possible, I present my students with authentic materials and interesting and varied cultural resources in order to develop an interest in the language and culture, which makes understanding easier and more enjoyable!
