About Sterling

I am a passionate flute tutor with 8 years of experience, having successfully taught over 150 students. I teach all levels, helping students build strong technical skills while nurturing creativity and musicality. My approach emphasises breath control, tone, finger dexterity, and rhythm, combined with improvisation and expressive playing to make lessons engaging. I personalise each lesson to the student’s learning style, ensuring steady progress while keeping the learning journey enjoyable.

Along with technique, I guide students in sight-reading, music theory, and ensemble work to provide a comprehensive musical foundation. My goal is to cultivate confident, expressive, and inspired flautists who enjoy every moment of their musical journey.

About the lesson

My flute teaching methodology focuses on adapting to each student’s unique learning style while fostering a love for music. I begin by understanding how the student learns best—whether through visual demonstrations, listening, or hands-on practice—and tailor every lesson to suit their needs. This approach ensures that learning is effective, engaging, and enjoyable.

I adjust exercises, repertoire, and practice routines according to the student’s progress and interests, allowing them to grow at a comfortable yet challenging pace. Collaboration is encouraged through duets, group activities, and interactive sessions, helping students develop confidence, timing, and musical sensitivity. Positivity underpins every lesson, creating a supportive environment where students feel inspired to experiment, overcome challenges, and celebrate accomplishments.

In addition to flute techniques, I include music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and rhythm exercises. This holistic methodology ensures students develop technical mastery alongside expressive musicality, cultivating confident, well-rounded musicians with a lifelong appreciation for music.
