About Alex

Bonjour! My name is Alex, and I am a passionate French tutor with a strong academic background and extensive experience studying and speaking French in both academic and everyday settings.

I was educated in Luxembourg until the age of 16, where I studied the International Baccalaureate in a multilingual environment where French played a central role in both school and daily life. After moving to the UK, I completed my GCSEs in one year, achieving a Grade 9 in French, before studying at Gresham's School in Norfolk, where I took A Level French a year early and was awarded an A.

I am currently entering my second year at the University of Manchester, studying Accounting and Finance on the PwC Flying Start Degree Apprenticeship Programme.

Having experienced both the Luxembourgish and British educational systems, I understand the demands of GCSE and A Level French and know what it takes to succeed. Whether you are preparing for exams, improving your spoken French or developing your reading and writing skills, I aim to make every lesson engaging, supportive and tailored to your individual goals.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual goals, whether that's improving confidence in spoken French, strengthening grammar, expanding vocabulary, or achieving top grades in GCSE or A Level examinations. I believe that the best way to learn a language is through regular practice in a supportive environment, so I encourage students to actively speak, read and write French from the very first lesson.

For GCSE and A Level students, lessons are designed around the current curriculum and focus on the key skills assessed in exams: speaking, listening, reading and writing. I can also provide targeted support with oral examinations, essay writing, translation, grammar, vocabulary acquisition and exam technique, helping students feel fully prepared and confident.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on individual needs. Each lesson is structured with clear objectives and tailored to the student's strengths, areas for improvement and pace of learning.

My experience comes from both academic success and genuine immersion in the language. I attended state school in Luxembourg until the age of 16 before moving to the UK, where I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE French after completing the course in just one year. I then studied at Gresham's School, in Norfolk, where I took A Level French a year early and was awarded an A. Having studied French in both multilingual and British education systems, I understand the demands of UK examinations and can explain complex language concepts in a clear and approachable way.

My lessons are ideal for GCSE and A Level students looking to improve their grades, prepare for exams or build confidence in speaking French. I also welcome younger learners, adult beginners and anyone wishing to develop their conversational, reading or writing skills for travel, work or personal interest.
