About Emma

Hi, I’m a First-Class Psychology graduate and have just finished my MSc in Psychology at UCL. I’ve always loved Psychology and am excited to share that interest with other students, particularly those who might not feel confident in the subject yet.

My own A-Level journey was a little unconventional — I started with an E and worked my way up to an A*! As someone who is dyslexic and has ADHD, I understand that everyone learns differently, and I’m passionate about finding an approach that works for each individual student.

Outside of Psychology, I’m a big music fan and recently went to End of the Road Festival with my dad. I also love arts and crafts, and I have a dog called Ben who I’m slightly obsessed with! I’m a friendly, patient and approachable person, and I want my lessons to feel like a space where students can ask questions, make mistakes and gradually build their confidence.

About the lesson

I’m a First-Class Psychology graduate and have recently completed my MSc in Psychology at UCL. Having progressed from an E to an A* in A-Level Psychology myself, I understand first-hand that where you start is not a reflection of where you can finish. I went on to pursue Psychology at university and have continued developing my knowledge of the subject ever since.

As someone who is dyslexic and has ADHD, I also understand personally that a one-size-fits-all approach to learning doesn’t work for everyone. This has strongly shaped the way I teach. I believe lessons should be tailored to each individual student — taking into account how they learn best, their current level, areas they find challenging, and the goals they want to achieve.

Alongside my academic background, I have experience providing academic support to children with a range of abilities and learning needs. I therefore aim to create a supportive environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes and gradually build confidence in their abilities.

Lessons are tailored around each student and can include
* Breaking down complex psychological theories and concepts into clear, manageable ideas
* Creating and co-creating comprehensive, easy-to-use notes throughout our sessions
* Using flashcards and active-recall techniques to strengthen memory
* Developing personalised acronyms and other memory techniques
* Working through exam questions and practice papers together
* Developing essay structure, evaluation and application skills
* Gradually building exam confidence and independence
* Revisiting topics at a pace that works for the individual student

I don’t believe tutoring is simply about giving students more information. It’s about finding the right way for each person to understand, remember and apply that information. My aim is to make Psychology feel less overwhelming, more engaging and, ultimately, achievable.

Having experienced the journey from an E to an A* myself, I know how much can change with the right support, strategies and confidence. I want to help my students experience that same progress — whatever their starting point.
