About Oliver

Although it is not my first language German has been present almost my entire life. My mother is German and since I was a baby time and time again we would go to the country to visit family, I was engrossed in the language even when I couldn’t speak it myself.

When I was older and decided to learn, my background became significantly useful for me and I quickly picked up the language at a faster rate than most of the others that I studied with.

When I became able to talk in German a whole new world of possibility opened up for me in my visits to the city of Koblenz to stay with family. Most of all I could actually for the first time communicate with these family members I’d interacted with my whole life, and could finally start to understand their unique personalities better than was ever before possible through previous English to German conversation (they speak no English).

It is an amazing feeling to unlock such new possibilities by learning a skill such as a foreign language. And I would love any opportunity to assist anyone into achieving the same. I obviously have my bias towards the language and Germany itself, and enjoy others getting to experience the inherent magic of both.

The past 6 months I was on study placement in the Bavarian city of Regensburg in the south of Germany. While there I worked a job at a climbing gym as a trainer for young children from 5 to 14, I found myself often being asked by these German kids questions about the English language and I became a quasi English as well as climbing instructor at the same time. It was an enriching and eye opening experience.

My degree has pointed me toward an ideal path of teaching, and I would like to use tutorship as a way of expanding upon my already existing experience in language instruction.

About the lesson

I will tailor each lesson according to what YOU want to focus on, insuring that your specific area of progress is achieved in the most time-efficient way.

Whether you are just starting to build a fluency in German or if you’ve been studying for years and require help writing essays or preparing for exams.

I will prepare individualised content for each meeting through assessment of your abilities and prioritisation of your requirements.

My hours of availability are relaxed and I intent to be also in my approach- I have had many tutors in other subjects in my life, and I believe the best are the ones that have the capability of patience as well as their knowledge on subject matters.

I will endeavour not to rush you beyond your pace or waste time going over areas you have mastered. There is no pressure here as I aim primarily to be a supplementary helper in your language journey: I will be there to try and give the insights you require when and where they crop up and to expand upon your understanding of target areas when you need it.

There will be no “homework” or any kind of study assignment, merely suggestions of content and media you may or may not want to check out in your own time.

In short I intend to offer the most convenient and useful assistance possible!
