About Sophie

I’m passionate about both Medicine and Education and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every tutor job. Seeing you guys succeed fills my heart! I know how stressful medical school applications can be, having done it twice (agh!) but due to being successful in 4/5 interviews I feel like I have enough knowledge to successfully help others and make your path a little easier!

About the lesson

I can offer support with your medical school application, from planning which schools to apply for, preparing for the UCAT, writing your personal statement and preparing for interview. Whatever it is you want to utilise your sessions for, I like to use the first session to get to know each other, understand what exactly you’d like to get out of our sessions and create a plan together to follow for the rest of our sessions to ensure we meet all of the requirements you presented to me. I have taken the UCAT twice and scored within the top 9% both times, and have a trove of different revision tips and tricks, meaning if one style of learning doesn’t work for you we can simply use another! I offer detailed advice and explanations to improve your understanding and overall performance, whether that be explaining answers to questions you find challenging, completing questions during our session and articulating my thought process, or assisting with more general tips and tricks guaranteed to make your performance within the exam the most efficient it can be. I encourage students to bring questions they find difficult to our sessions, so we can focus specifically on which question types you find particularly difficult. In terms of support I offer with the writing of personal statements, I can offer advice about how to structure your personal statement and what to include to make you stand out against your competitors. I can review your personal statement and email you annotated feedback, and our next session will be utilised to discuss the annotations together or to go through your next draft together. Due to spending at least 1hr-1hr30 of my personal time reading and editing personal statements sent to me to review, this service is offered at the same cost as a 1hr tutor session. I have attended 5 medical school interviews as both an undergraduate and graduate, and have done both an Oxford interview and MMI style interview. I offer sessions that can either be conducted casually, going through as many questions as we can within an hour and tackling any problems and areas to revise as we go along, or mock interviews timed to resemble an actual MMI/panel interview. During the interviews, I will write detailed feedback of your performance, including both areas of strength and weakness. I offer as many sessions as the student requires to feel confident in their interview skills, this may be 2 or may be several, it varies from student to student.

Perfect! Could not recommend Sophie more when preparing for the UCAT. Across 4 weeks she helped me break down and approach my weakest areas and took me from a score of 1790 to 2100. Lovely and always doing as much as possible to help out, she made studying for the UCAT more approachable and less daunting than before.
