About Gerry

I've been producing film since 2010 and delivering UK film festivals since 2013, but as a freelancer there's always time to talk about film and the wider world of media studies, which is why I enjoy offering private tuition in these subjects so much. I take a friendly, supportive role when I'm leading lessons, which I find fits well with a topic which involves discursive practice. ABOUT ME I've been working as a freelance film producer and media professional since 2010, producing work for a range of different markets. In that time I've mentored a number of people and been mentored myself - now I'm keen to pass on my knowledge to others. I hold a full, enhanced DBS certificate. MY EXPERIENCE I've lectured at a number of colleges and schools, as well as having delivered workshops and seminars for small (and larger) audiences. MY TUTORING STYLE I can support individuals on a one-to-one basis using targeted, task orientated learning practices, or through a more flexible approach; whatever works for you. I believe in the importance of holistic learning, so I'll try wherever possible to provide links to complementary disciplines. More than anything, I believe that the best learning environment is a relaxed, focussed and trusting one. I want my tutees to be comfortable at all times and I'll spend time making sure you and I get that balance right before we begin. Looking forward to hearing from you! About the lesson

Hi everyone, I'm a film producer whose work has been BAFTA nominated, and I have produced/directed a number of major film festivals across the UK. I use the knowledge and understanding I've collected over the last decade and a half in film and media to support learners with reference to real-world examples and comparables which arm them with more than just a textbook definition. If you choose to work with me, you'll find our lessons are part discussion, and partly focused on working towards our goals. This is important: media studies (like all communications subjects) are discursive, so you need to be able to converse freely about the topics you're studying, relating the work to real-life experiences, before you can be confident in an exam environment or with a coursework submission.
