About William
I'm a teacher trainee who turned to tutoring in order to provide more tailored help. Unfortunately Media Studies and Film Studies at GCSE and A-level have an academic side that can be stressful for students interested in the practical side. As it stands Media studies contains a lot of exam content that sounds counter productive and may lead students away from the industry instead of closer.
That why I'm determined to show the exam can be taught through skill based learning and help connect why the analysis of texts or knowing the background of a text is just as important as the practical side.
The type of teaching I am offering is tailored through my experience of teaching and my own frustration of learning the subject. This will be a more physically demanding course but will ensure you learn practical skills that can be used for further education or projects in the future.

For both Film and Media you will start with the basic run down of the exam, what will be on the exam, what information and skills are required to pass the exam, and an overview of the steps we will take to train those skills.
Then we will move to the memory phase. This will be testing your memory through flashcards and Quizzes. The content of those tests will be based on the codes and their effect need for analysis. As well as Basic facts about particular media texts that need to be studied for exam answers. This phase will still continue throughout the phases as a warm up or plenary to sessions.
The next phase is the practicing phase. This is where we start to develop the skills required for the exam now that you have your memory based foundation. This includes the skill of analysis on various media, structuring paragraphs for high mark questions and using facts to answer (4-6) mark questions on different texts.
The final stage is the Mock phase, where we get you prepared for the exam itself in order to test your time management, help with exam pressure and highlight weak areas to improve upon
