About Rowan

I've been playing chess since I was 5 years old and developed a strong passion for the game. When I was 9 I became the Australian Under 12 National Champion and at 13 I achieved the Candidate Master title. I was the Under 12 Bronze medallist in the Commonwealth Chess Championships in 2011 and have represented Australia in many World Youth Chess Championships in Greece, Brazil, Slovenia, Abu Dhabi and most recently in Italy. My FIDE rating is 2043 and my highest online blitz rating is 2240.

In 2022 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science and am currently studying medicine at RCSI Dublin. I have experience coaching players of all ages from young juniors to seasoned veterans. Most of all, I enjoy passing on my knowledge and seeing the development of my students whilst having a lot of fun along the way :)

About the lesson

Specifically tailored to the student's age or skill level -
For beginners or younger kids learning the game, my lessons will include:
- Fun chess mini-games
- Puzzles to help recognise common patterns/tactics
- Introduction to popular openings
For intermediate or advanced players trying to improve their game, my lessons will include:
- Advanced puzzles from books and my own games to enhance tactical vision
- Development of an opening repertoire
- Exposure to middle-game ideas
- Endgame revision

Analysis of my student's games and give constructive feedback on where to improve which we can work on in future lessons

Friendly games with student which we can discuss during the game or analyse in depth afterwards
