About David
With over 2 years of experience teaching guitar both in-person and online, I help students turn musical ideas into expressive, original pieces. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance with a focus on Contemporary Styles. My teaching is rooted in creativity, structure, and helping students find their voice through the instrument. Whether you're new to the guitar or have years of playing behind you, I shape each lesson around your personal goals. I focus on compositional techniques, arranging, and developing your own musical language. Lessons often include harmonic concepts, melodic development, and creating short recordings to track your growth. I love guiding students through counterpoint exercises, songwriting sessions, and solo arrangement projects. From blues and funk to indie and cinematic sounds, we explore how music theory comes alive on the fretboard. My students range from beginners to advanced players, including aspiring composers preparing professional portfolios. I also help learners improve their performance confidence and recording workflow. My teaching method centers on building strong listening skills that support long-term musical growth. I believe your ear is your most powerful tool on the guitar. We focus on ear training, melodic dictation, and recognizing intervals by sound. You'll learn how to transcribe songs and figure out chord progressions on your own. This gives you real independence as a player. I work especially well with The Campfire Strummer who wants to learn songs quickly, and The Blues Seeker who’s chasing soulful solos. I guide you through exercises that help match what you hear with what you play. We’ll train your ear to recognize melody lines, harmonic movement, and common patterns. You’ll soon feel confident picking out riffs, licks, and full songs by ear. I adapt lessons to your style and goals, using both modern and classic music. This practical ear-first approach makes theory come alive. You’ll grow as a musician and enjoy every step of the journey.
