  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Fashion has always been a medium of self-expression for me. My interest in fashion design began at a young age when I was fascinated by how garments could tell stories, reflect culture, and boost confidence. Over the years, I pursued formal education and gained professional experience in fashion design, garment construction, pattern making, surface development, embroidery, draping, and sustainable fashion practices. Today, I enjoy helping aspiring designers transform their creative ideas into wearable designs while building strong technical skills.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

My biggest motivation comes from seeing students grow in confidence and creativity. I believe that knowledge becomes more valuable when it is shared. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to learn from talented mentors and industry professionals, and teaching allows me to pass that knowledge forward. Watching a student create their first garment, master a new technique, or start their own fashion journey is incredibly rewarding.
  • How does your work help society?

Fashion education empowers individuals with creative, technical, and entrepreneurial skills. Through teaching, I help students develop practical abilities that can lead to employment, freelancing opportunities, or their own businesses. I also encourage sustainable and mindful design practices, helping future designers create fashion with greater awareness of its environmental and social impact.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

My greatest inspiration comes from India’s rich heritage of textiles and handicrafts. I deeply admire the artisans who have preserved traditional techniques such as embroidery, weaving, block printing, and dyeing through generations. Their craftsmanship, patience, and dedication motivate me to keep these art forms relevant by combining them with contemporary fashion and sharing them with my students.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside teaching, I enjoy exploring textile crafts, embroidery techniques, surface development methods, and sustainable DIY fashion projects. I also love sketching fashion illustrations, experimenting with upcycling old garments, and staying updated with industry trends. Creative activities allow me to continuously learn and bring fresh ideas into my classes.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

One of the most memorable moments in my teaching journey was helping a student who initially had no prior experience in fashion design. At the beginning, she lacked confidence and was hesitant to share her ideas. Through consistent practice, guidance, and encouragement, she successfully designed and constructed her own garment. Seeing her confidence grow throughout the process reminded me that great designers are not born overnight
