About James
Like many of my students, it seems I have always loved watching films. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to turn that love into a teaching career and sometimes actually directing, writing, and producing short films and documentaries. I have to admit that sharing my knowledge with film students in the US, Hong Kong, and the Philippines for 20 years has been fulfilling, but I also feel that I have learned much from my students.

Film is business but also one of the most important art forms. How does the artist manage within this commercial industry? Film is fascinating because it can shape how we look at the world while also holding a mirror up to it.
