About Kalsoom

About me

Hi! I’m a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduate and a passionate tutor who genuinely enjoys making science and pharmacy easier to understand.

Have you ever looked at a topic and thought, “I understand the words, but I just don’t get the concept”? That’s exactly where I can help. My approach is to break complicated topics into simple, logical steps so you understand not just what happens, but why it happens.

I teach Pharmacy and core pharmaceutical sciences, including Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacognosy.

Whether you’re struggling with a difficult topic, preparing for an exam, revising an entire module, or simply want to build a stronger foundation, our lessons will be tailored around your goals. I use clear explanations, diagrams, pathways, examples, comparisons, and practice questions to make learning more interactive and less overwhelming.

I believe tutoring should be more than just reading through slides or memorising notes. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where you can ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at your own pace without feeling judged.

I’m patient, approachable, and happy to explain the same concept in different ways until it finally clicks.

Most importantly, I want you to leave every lesson thinking, “Now I actually understand it.”

If you’re looking for a friendly pharmacy tutor who can turn complicated concepts into something clear and manageable, I’d love to work with you!

About my lessons

I offer personalised online tutoring for pharmacy students and students studying pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences. My aim is to make complex concepts easier to understand by breaking them down into simple, logical steps and connecting theoretical knowledge with practical and clinical examples.

I teach a range of core pharmacy subjects, including:

Pharmaceutics

I cover the fundamental principles of pharmaceutics and help students understand how medicines are designed, formulated, manufactured, and delivered to the body.

Topics can include dosage forms, pharmaceutical calculations, solutions, suspensions, emulsions, powders, tablets, capsules, semisolid preparations, liquid formulations, rheology, drug stability, dissolution, drug release, excipients, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and quality considerations.

I focus on helping students understand why different formulations and excipients are used rather than simply memorising definitions. I can also help students work through pharmaceutical calculations and prepare for examinations.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is one of the areas I particularly enjoy teaching. I explain how drugs interact with the body, their mechanisms of action, therapeutic effects, adverse effects, contraindications, and clinically important drug interactions.

Depending on the student’s level, lessons can cover general pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, autonomic nervous system pharmacology, cardiovascular drugs, antibiotics and antimicrobials, CNS drugs, endocrine pharmacology, respiratory drugs, gastrointestinal drugs, anti-inflammatory medicines, and other major therapeutic classes.

I use mechanisms, pathways, comparisons, and clinical examples to make pharmacology easier to understand and remember.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry

I help students understand the chemistry behind medicines and how chemical structure influences pharmaceutical activity.

Lessons can cover chemical structures, functional groups, physicochemical properties, drug classification, structure–activity relationships, mechanisms of action from a chemical perspective, synthesis concepts, and important medicinal chemistry principles.

Rather than asking students to memorise large numbers of structures, I try to explain the logic behind them so that students can recognise patterns and understand how changes in chemical structure can affect a drug’s properties and activity.

Anatomy

I teach fundamental human anatomy and help students develop a clear understanding of the structure of the human body.

Topics can include anatomical terminology, tissues, organs, body systems, the skeletal system, muscular system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, digestive system, urinary system, reproductive system, and endocrine system.

I use simple explanations and connections between structures and their functions to make anatomy easier to learn and recall.

Physiology

In physiology, I focus on helping students understand how the human body normally functions.

Lessons can include cell physiology, blood and circulation, cardiovascular physiology, respiratory physiology, nervous system physiology, renal physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, endocrine physiology, reproductive physiology, and other major physiological processes.

I believe physiology becomes much easier when students understand the sequence of events and the relationship between different systems rather than memorising isolated facts.

Pharmacognosy

I also teach pharmacognosy, focusing on natural sources of medicines and biologically active substances.

Topics can include medicinal plants, crude drugs, plant constituents, carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, tannins, volatile oils, resins, flavonoids, natural products, identification and evaluation of crude drugs, and the medicinal importance of different natural sources.

I try to make pharmacognosy more interesting by connecting natural products with their pharmaceutical uses and explaining the important principles behind their classification, constituents, and therapeutic applications.

My teaching approach

My lessons are completely adapted to the student’s level, goals, and current understanding. Whether you are preparing for university examinations, struggling with a particular topic, revising your syllabus, or simply want to strengthen your foundation, I can structure the lessons around your needs.

I don’t believe in simply giving students information and asking them to memorise it. My approach is based on understanding first, followed by repetition, practice, and revision.

During lessons, I can use:

• Simple explanations of difficult concepts
• Step-by-step diagrams and pathways
• Real-life and clinical examples
• Comparisons and tables for easier revision
• Practice questions
• Exam-focused preparation
• Topic-by-topic revision
• Discussion and active questioning
• Personalised notes and revision guidance
• Help with difficult or confusing concepts

I also encourage students to ask questions throughout the lesson. If one explanation does not work, I am happy to explain the same concept in a different way until it becomes clear.

Whether you are studying Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacognosy, or related pharmacy subjects, my goal is to help you move from memorising information to genuinely understanding it.

Most importantly, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they started.
