About Morgan

Hello everyone, I’m Morgan from Norwich! I’ve been programming since I was 11 and have loved it ever since. It’s still a big hobby of mine, despite also doing it professionally.

Now I want to help other like-minded individuals learn the same skills and master them faster than I did! I completed my bachelors of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln and received a 1st.

During my time at university, I tutored many of my course mates and found I really enjoyed helping others and teaching them my hobby.

Since then I’ve worked professionally; first at YourHippo, developing Learning Management systems for the Care Sector and now at TaxAssist as one of the key decision makers for their global web infrastructure. As part of my duties, I’m heavily involved in the hiring process for new developers and as such I know many of the pitfalls and traps that many new developers fall into, but more importantly, how to avoid them!

About the lesson

I mainly teach Next JS/React but I also have a lot of experience with the Laravel ecosystem. Programming is a mindset - it takes time to develop and more importantly, explore.

I find it very important, if not essential to allow people to explore the aspects that they find most interesting rather than sticking to an overly rigid lesson plan. I also believe in developing strong technical communication skills.

Contrary to popular belief as a programmer having social skills and the ability to communicate with other people is incredibly important! Due to the complexity of the subject, it’s even more important to be able to both communicate concepts accurately to other team members as well as be able to summarise the more complex aspects to other, less tech literate co-workers.

Learning to complete a mark scheme is easy in the grand scheme of things but I believe only gets people so far. It’s an innate understanding of core concepts that many people I’ve met during the interview process don’t always have. Which unfortunately hurts them in the long term, both as a developer and for career opportunities.
