Hello, future academic superstar!

I'm Vuyelwa, a university lecturer, PhD candidate in Development Studies, and a firm believer that learning doesn't have to be boring to be meaningful!

I hold a Master's degree in Development Studies, which I completed Cum Laude, and I've been teaching at university level since 2023. But beyond the qualifications and academic titles, I'm someone who genuinely loves people, great conversations, interesting ideas, and those wonderful "Aha! Now I get it!" moments.

My academic interests include Development Studies, Political Economy, Research Methodology, and the fascinating ways societies, economies and policies shape our everyday lives. I'm particularly passionate about making complex theories feel less intimidating and a whole lot more relatable.

A little secret about me? I love a good academic debate! I'm the kind of lecturer who will happily turn a complicated concept into a real-life example, ask you a thought-provoking question, and celebrate when you challenge my perspective with a well-reasoned argument. That's when I know real learning is happening!

I believe education should build confidence, encourage curiosity, and empower students to think independently. My teaching style combines academic excellence with patience, humour, encouragement, and just the right amount of intellectual challenge.

My lessons are designed to make learning engaging, practical and accessible, regardless of a student's academic background or level of confidence.

As a university lecturer and PhD candidate in Development Studies, I bring both academic expertise and practical teaching experience to every session. I specialise in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Political Economy, Research Methodology and Academic Writing.

My teaching approach

I believe that every student learns differently. I therefore tailor my lessons to individual learning needs, academic goals and areas of difficulty. My approach is interactive, supportive and student-centred, with a strong emphasis on understanding rather than memorisation.

My lessons are particularly suitable for undergraduate university students studying Development Studies and related social science disciplines, as well as students seeking to improve their research, academic writing and analytical skills.
