About Dr Lisa

Hello, I am a Doctor in Psychology and Behavioural Science from the University of Cambridge, where I completed my PhD within the Political Psychology Lab and the El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy. My doctoral research examined how elected politicians misperceive public support for climate policies and how evidence-based interventions can improve judgement in high-stakes institutional settings.

My doctoral studies were widely covered in leading international media, including interviews with The Guardian and Times Radio, which can be found on my LinkedIn profile (Lisa-Maria Tanase). In recognition of the societal impact of my research, I was the recipient of the Policy Innovation Award from the Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy. I am regularly invited to deliver keynote talks and roundtables across government, parliament and corporate leadership, providing evidence-based behavioural insights.

My most recent research findings, for instance, were discussed by a Minister of State during a House of Commons session as featured on Parliament TV, contributed to Parliament’s Net Zero Select Committee evidence inquiry, and were cited in several government reports in the UK and European Commission. I was invited to Westminster to present my research to All-Party Parliamentary Groups, organised a high-level policy workshop at the Royal Society for Lords, Members of Parliament and senior government officials, and advised international policy collaborators extending my research across Europe. My expertise conducting research with strong translational impact and science communication experience engaging policy-makers at a high-level allow me to teach my students how to design, implement, critically discuss and present their studies across psychology topics in a way that meets competitive yet often nuanced academic standards.

Alongside my research, I am also employed by the University of Cambridge to officially supervise undergraduate students in STEMM subjects (Psychology specialisation). I am a highly qualified tutor with teaching training from the Cambridge University Centre for Teaching and Learning.

-> As a Dr in Psychology at the University of Cambridge, with experience tutoring tens of students, I will provide an expertise you can trust. I will accompany you at every step of your application (UCAS, Oxford / Cambridge / Ivy League / Russell group universities etc. ) by providing bespoke tutoring to emphasise your strengths and develop areas in which you feel less confident. I have received offers from Cambridge University, LSE, UCL, and Kings College London in the past and know what elements can make the difference for a successful application.

Besides my research, I am employed by the University of Cambridge to officially supervise its undergraduate students in STEMM subjects (Psychology specialisation). This gives me the unique position of being able to share with my tutees a reliable sense of the expectations and academic standards within the University.

In the first session with me, we will work together to produce a strategic and actionable plan based on your background, motivations, and the identified prerequisites of your chosen program. I provide a 3 minutes on line form to my new students ahead of our first call allowing me to produce an effective plan of action that matches your profile and objectives based on the information you provided.
Send me a message and I will be happy to share the form link if you would like to see it before booking our first free call.

Our sessions will cover all stages of the application with personalised training components.
For example, this would involve working on your personal statement for both content and writing style. I will provide you with clear recommendations on readings and extra-curricular activities which are looked upon highly by admission committees and that can make a real difference.

For Oxbridge applicants, for the next stage of admission testing and written work, which can sound daunting, I will go through practice questions with you to get you confident with the style, structure, and timing. We’ll work together on exercises to make progress on your numerical reasoning, critical thinking abilities, argument presentation, essay writing and logical flow, to significantly improve your test score.

Next, interview stages are a common requirement for applications and we will practice these intensively through mock interviews based on my wealth of experience interviewing with a range of science and social science departments. I will teach you how to communicate the narrative around your background and achievements in a way that truly puts forward your suitability for the given program of study. I will pay close attention to often overlooked elements of body language and wording choices which actually play a key role in the impression left on the interviewer.

Thanks to my experience in international school systems, I can provide clear guidance on how you can gain an edge in the UK/US admission system. I graduated from the French High School with the highest distinction before joining University College London and University of Cambridge for my undergraduate and doctoral studies, and I love being able to share my tips and personal approach to stand out during an interview, or written work.
