About Thivahar
My name is Thivahar and I am a medical student at the University of Birmingham. Having achieved 11 grade 9s at GCSE and A*A*AA at A-Level, I know what it takes to hit top marks, but I also know exactly what it feels like to face setback and frustration even when you do everything right. During my first medical school application cycle, despite my strong predicted grades, I did not receive a single standard offer. Rather than giving up, I had to completely re-strategise my approach, work on my resilience, and ultimately secure my place at a top-tier medical school through the highly competitive Clearing process. I want to teach because this journey made me a much more empathetic and effective mentor. I understand the intense mental pressure students face when things don't go to plan. Beyond just teaching the core science and maths curriculum, my goal is to show students how to bounce back from academic plateaus, manage exam anxiety, and build the genuine confidence needed to succeed under high-pressure conditions.

I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I break complicated topics down into manageable steps before gradually building them back up, and I place particular emphasis on applying knowledge to exam questions and developing effective exam technique.
In UCAT classes, I will focus on collaboration with the student, helping them find strategies that work best for them, not just generic ones. I will also focus on mentoring the student, as mental resilience is just as important as intellect when it comes to this exam. If you feel like you have messed up VR, you can't let that worry allow you to mess up DM. If you start panicking and doubting your abilities, you will lose the ability to make decisions under time pressure, that will hurt your QR score most of all, the section most sensitive to time pressure. As such, mindset is just as important in my classes as content.
As someone who has taught young students for 4 months, and volunteered for a year teaching primary school children how to read, I now have experience teaching basic concepts in an easy-to-understand way, so rest assured I will be able to make explanations tailored to you, ensuring you leave with the best understanding possible!
