About Angelica

Over 10 years teaching orchestra and providing private lessons in all strings. I use student-requested melodies to teach music like a language first, then incorporate music reading and theory.

I believe music is a gateway to citizenship and character (rephrasing from Suzuki) that can strengthen an individual and their community. Music education shaped my life and anyone can learn and thrive with music that is important to them.

I have been playing violin since my 5th grade after-school Strings program. I wanted to quit because I loved music, but did not connect to anything we were learning and was frustrated with all the work and none of the fun.
I finally connected to the music we were playing more in secondary school and began helping my friends, meeting them before school and during lunch. I discovered I had a gift for explaining music in a light and relaxed teaching style.
I decided to pursue music as a career and began teaching beginner and intermediate classes in college. I have been teaching orchestra and Strings programs in public schools for 10 years.

About the lesson

I approach music as a language: rote and repetition first, similar to the Suzuki method.

We will go over known/requested melodies and slowly incorporate music theory (comparable to grammar and reading).

Students will be asked submit recordings of their playing during the week for customized feedback and to help guide practice (no additional charge).
