About Annalee

I now teach viola lessons as well!

I have absolutely enjoyed getting to know the students I have and seeing their joy in their accomplishments. The best part about being a teacher is seeing the things you teach finally click! I am very proud of my students' progress and seeing how happy they are most of all!

One of my good friends from UVU (also a violinist and teacher) asked me if I could start giving her little sister some private lessons, and things just went from there! :)

I am currently earning my bachelor's degree at UVU in performance and have taken a pedagogy class from Dr. Fairbanks, which not only teaches how to analyze and perform research on renowned pieces, but also the basic techniques to how the violin works and how to apply them when teaching in private lessons.

I also currently substitute at Best in Music Education Center and worked at Summerhays Music Center as a strings specialist.

About the lesson

I first like to listen to them play pieces/exercises they have prepared for me first if they have any. Afterwards, I go over any goals the new student will have, anything they want to accomplish while taking lesson from me. Then we work out a plan together: what pieces to work on, exercise books, etc.

I have mainly worked with students who are in elementary, junior high and high school. However, I am willing to work with students of all ages!

If you are a beginner and are nervous, don't be! If you are worried that you are starting too late in your age, don't be! Everyone has to start somewhere, and I hope that as your teacher, I can show you that as long as you love the violin/viola and are enjoying it for yourself, you can progress further than you even imagined!!

My friend and I organized a group class with all of our students combined, where everyone played a piece for the audience and recieved and gave feedback. That was a really fun time for me, being able to hear what the other students had to say about their peers' performances. The treats provided afterwards were a nice bonus too!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I 100% recommend purchasing a notebook for me to write in during/after lessons. I will write in notes such as what to work on and what pieces the student is learning, that way when the student goes home, they can review the notes and remember what to practice.

A cleaning cloth and sponge is also good to have. It's very important to clean your instrument regularly, if not everyday, to make sure there is no rosin buildup or any other unwanted substances on the instrument.

The last thing that will be very useful for the student is a music bag. It can be so easy to lose track of our music, and I've been there before! Arranging sheets of music in a folder or binder and then putting everything together in a tote bag will make things much quicker and easier for the student.
