About Rose

Hi! I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2020 with a bachelors degree. Throughout my four years at Berklee I studied ear training, improvisation, performance, harmony, songwriting, counterpoint, voice, and much more.

Though my degree is in songwriting, I have been playing the violin for 17 years and was trained classically using the Suzuki method at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I would love to teach newer violinists essential skills that they can build upon such as sight reading, scales, and rhythm.

I don’t have much experience teaching/tutoring, but I believe my many years of studying music—-both on my own and in school—-as well as my love of people has prepared me well for a position such as this. I can meet with students online at any time of day and am very flexible with scheduling. I’d love to help you on your way to becoming a great musician!

I think I would be an excellent tutor because I have been a music student for so many years myself, so I know how difficult but also rewarding it can be. I also think I can communicate material effectively and give good, constructive criticism.

About the lesson

I would begin by getting to know a new student's personality and a little bit about their background. From there, I'd start with the basics of the violin (correct way of holding the violin and the bow, correct posture/stance, parts of the violin/bow, etc.). Eventually we'd progress to names of strings and scales. I would incorporate basic music theory into my lessons and teach them about the different types of scales and begin showing them how to read basic musical notation. We'd work on rhythms, names of notes, time signatures, etc. After that, I'd see how fast the student was progressing and determine how to proceed from there.
