Dr. Walterman completed changed my confidence and ability to think in a growth mindset for the better. She taught me the essential skill of believing in yourself and perseverance. Through her, I learned how to accept mistakes I’ve made, tackle continuous challenges with the viola, and love myself, the music, and the instrument all while doing so. When I wanted to quit, she was there for me to tell me “if you get better one percent each day, by next year, you’ll be 365% better.” A lesson like that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Dr. Walterman focuses on the technical aspects of playing, something I struggled with getting with other teachers. She always imparts advice on how to improve while congratulating the improvements already made. I couldn’t ask for a better viola instructor! Overall, I’m very happy to have her as my teacher.

Hailey Walterman is one of--if not the--best viola teachers I've had, including as a music major in college. I've been working with her for nearly 1.5 years via Zoom as an adult getting back into music, and I've been able to make so much progress in a short span of time thanks to her. Hailey knows her instruments inside and out, and she adapts our lessons to my specific needs, versus a one-size-fits-all approach. She's very adept at identifying technique issues AND providing clear, actionable solutions to address them. I always leave my lessons knowing exactly what I need to work on and how. Most importantly, Hailey truly cares about her students and developing our unique voices as musicians.
