About Marcos

I am a violin teacher who uses both the Suzuki and the Traditional Method. With my students, I focus on finding their emotional resonance with the instrument and expressing that with both themselves and the audience. I emphasize the dreamlike aspects of music that can enrich and stimulate the student into becoming not just a great musician, but a mindful one.

When I finished my music degree, I realized that as I went through my own music process that I could help others. I started teaching with my oldest niece; helping her out with her Suzuki classes. It served as a starting point for me to continue teaching and get my Suzuki certification.

I have a Bachelor's in Musical Performance at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in San German, Puerto Rico. I also have a Suzuki Certification from the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute. I have been teaching for a year both private and group classes.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I

1. Make sure he/she feels welcome

2. Take a piece of paper and measure out his/her feet for the right position

3. Ask the student why he/she chose to play the violin

4. Give both the parent and the student guidelines on how to be a successful team with regard to lessons and home practice.

5. Start teaching the student about the different parts of the violin and bow and how to handle the instrument.

I have worked with both younger and older students.

For a student looking to hire a teacher, I would ask myself these questions:

1. Can the teacher provide what I am looking for that is up to my standards?

2. Can the teacher provide an environment where I can grow and develop not just as a musician, but as a person?

3. Will the teacher be respectful with me?

4. Should I decide to pursue this long-term, will the teacher be there to help me step by step?

I am very fond of playing in orchestras and chamber ensembles.

For the first lesson, I offer it free of charge. After the first lesson, I charge $25 for a half hour.
