About Sharon Gayoung

Born in South Korea, Sharon attended Yewon School in Seoul, South Korea. She moved to Vienna, Austria in 2001 and has studied under the legendary violin professor Dora Schwarzberg. Sharon enrolled as a freshman in the university as the youngest student at age of 15. She holds Bachelor of Music degree, Master of Art degree; Postgraduate certificate in Violin Performance from Universität für Darstellende Kunst Wien, and Artist Diploma certificate at Yale School of Music with full scholarship. Sharon has worked as a secondary music instructor at Yale School of Music, and at Rutgers university. Sharon entered Rutgers university as a top of the violin class with full scholarship for the Doctor of Musical Arts under the guidance of Todd Philips.

She has performed at festivals such as International Mendelssohn Summer School Festival, Hamburg, Internationale Konzertarbeitswochen, Goslar, Germany, International Summer Music school Hvar, Accademia Di Musica Musica d́Estate Bardonecchia, Italy, Cuarto Curso Internacional de Perfeccionamiento Musical, Aller-Spain, Norfolk Chamber Music festival; Accentus Musical Music festivals, Slovenia, and others. Also, she had master classes from world-renowned musicians like Donald Weilerstin, Pavel Vernikov, Midori Goto, Steve Tenenborn, Boris Galitsky, Koichiro Harada, Taras Gabora, Hagen Quartet, Artis Quartet, and many others.

Sharon was the winner of the ‘Citta Padova’ International Competition in Italy and was awarded for second prize and the Governor’s prize for Modern Music at the Gavrillin Governors International Competition in Russia. She has also earned many prizes in many other national Competitions in South Korea. Some of these prizes include Second prize at Hangookilbo National Violin Competition; Third prize at Suwon University Violin Competition; First Prize at Hanmi National Competitiona; and First Prize at Yejin National Young Artist Competition, and first prize at Youngnam National Violin Competition.

Sharon was invited to give chamber music performances at Presidential Palace in Austria and has performed in many cities in Austria. She also gave a chamber music tour concerts in Austria. Sharon has performed as a soloist with ‘Cosiche Chamber Orchestra of Slovakia’ for tour concerts in South Korea. She has performed in ensembles such as Anton von Webern Orchestra in Grosser saal of Musikverein with Ricardo Muti, Symphony- Orchester der konsevatorium Wien, and as a Principle of second violin Yale Philharmonia with James Conlon. She had worked also as a concert master for Yale Philharmonia Orchestra. Currently she works as an associate concertmaster for Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. She is a faculty of violin at the Speak Music Conservatory, and the CME music Academy.

Sharon won the first prize at American Protégé International Piano and Strings competition, and performed at Carnegie Hall. Also, She won the first prize at New York Artist International competition, and performed at Lincoln Center in New York. Sharon won the second prize at New York international competition. She won the concerto competition at Rutgers University, She performed with Rutgers Symphony orchestra, and the concert was recorded and broadcasted on 89.1 WWFM. Ms. Cho won the first prize and grand second prize at Vivo International Music competition, and had performed at the Carnegie hall.

Her studnets are winning many pretegeous music competitions in New Jersey and New York area, as well as getting high grades at the regional CJMEA auditions.
