About Rachel

- Violinist in the Atlanta Symphony, with previous performance experience with the San Francisco Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic; my students can benefit from audition prep for youth or school orchestras.

We have been making music since the beginning of human civilization, but it still remains a mystery to us. Why does it make us want to dance, or cry, or sing along? And how? Is it really a language? If so, how do we use it to communicate? At Aspire Music Academy, we love teaching because of how students and teacher get to experience this mystery firsthand in every lesson.

As a graduate student at Yale University, my studio began to take shape as I taught both Yale non-major grad students, undergraduates, and people in the surrounding community of New Haven.

About the lesson

Free Consultation: student and I meet to discuss their musical interests, their goals in music, as well as establishing a lesson frequency/schedule that works for both of us.

Beginners, Suzuki Book 1 through Advanced collegiate level students. I teach beginner adults, people returning to the violin after a long time, and children 3 years and above.

As a summer student at the Aspen Music Festival and school, one of my biggest takeaways was the incredible combination of a driven, focused atmosphere as well as the sense of community and wellbeing within the world of musicmakers. I would advise a student needing a teacher to look for the following:

-a teacher who pushes you to be better, refines your technique, etc.

-a teacher who listens to your questions/issues

-a teacher who exposes you to new ways of thinking about music, new ways of listening to music and/or your own instrument

-a teacher who provides a community where you can learn from others performing and perform for them.

Before the pandemic, I was able to perform on an international tour with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performing in venues from London to Mexico City.

Rachel is so good with my kids and such a wonderful teacher! Both of my kids have made such huge strides with bow technique, practice motivation and in general they listen and focus better while they’re practicing during the rest of the week. They have moved to practicing almost completely independently because they are excited to perform for her at their lesson! They always love their lessons and rave about them afterward. Rachel is always prompt and very organized about her schedule, and is able to keep my kids focused during their lessons, even though they are online. Love her!!!
