About Spencer
Currently I am the trombone professor at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and a graduate teaching assistant at Boston University where I am currently finishing up my doctorate in trombone performance.
I am also an active performer throughout the New England area and am currently the bass trombonist for both the Du Bois Orchestra and the New England Repertory Orchestra. I sub with many of the regional orchestras in the area and have even been featured as a soloist with the New England Brass Band.
Additionally, I have also seen success in various solo and ensemble competitions such as: The 2019 American Trombone Workshop Division II Bass Trombone Solo Compeition (Finalist), the 2019 International Women's Brass Confrence's Susan Slaughter Divison I Bass Trombone Solo Competition (3rd Place), the 2019 International Women's Brass Confrence's Ginger Turner Ensemble Competition (1st Place Grand Prize Winners), the 2020 Chamber Music Tulsa Heckman Solo Competition (2nd Place), the 2020 Delta Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition (Finalist), and the 2020 Triangle Brass Virtual Music Competition (3rd Place).
I recieved my Masters in Music Performance from Oklahoma State University, where I also worked as the trombone graduate teaching assistant and low brass instructor for the Perkins-Tryon School District, and my Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. My primary teachers include Dr. Ben McIlwain, Paul Compton, Gabe Langfur Rice, Don Lucas, and Ilan Morgenstern.

When starting with a new student I first like to discuss what their goals might be and tailor a plan of study based upon that. This plan is built up of many smaller goals that all lead up to the desired result. By breaking these goals into several smaller ones the student can see and feel the progress they are making and will lead to a more successful and positive outcome.
I teach all low brass instruments and have worked with students of all ages, from beginners thru college undergrads.
I believe that the most important quality is the connection. Do you feel like your personalities work well together? Do you feel like you can trust them? You will be spending a lot of time with them, so it is important that it is someone you get along with.
My senior trombone student, Jake, giving his senior recital. When I started teaching at Saint Anselm College Jake had only a month to prepare his senior recital. He worked diligently and made tremendous improvement over those few weeks, and gave a solid recital. He surprised me, and I will always be proud of him.

Details
I charge a flat rate of $50 an hour, but also understand that might not be affordable to all. I am more than willing to work out a rate depending on the students needs.
