About Jato
I work with each student's abilities and interests as an individual, even in a group setting. Each student is encouraged to advance at their own pace to build maximum confidence in newly-attained skills.
I love seeing the look in someone's eyes as they overcome a challenge for the first time and realize they're doing something that they weren't sure they could accomplish just moments before.
I am a certified Program Director for RPC Swim School, Level 2 ASCA Swim Coach, USA Swimming certified swimming coach, Starguard-certified Lifeguard Instructor, US Masters swimming state record holder, and a former silver and bronze swimming medalist in the National Sports Festival.

First, we'll determine who is going to be taking lessons. Is it you? Your child? A grandchild? This helps me determine what the motivation is for learning to swim, such as "being safer around water," "feeling confident," "fitness," "participate in water sports, etc."
How old is the swim student? Adult? Older adult? Teen? Tot? This helps me determine the style of lessons so we can meet our goals more easily.
Finally, we'll determine what your goals are and set a realistic amount of time to accomplish them. Of course, until we get into the water, this is just an estimation. Students are individuals and each can face challenges such as anxiety, physical movement limitations, or other factors that we'll address and overcome together at the pace of each student. Maximum enjoyment and minimal anxiety is our goal.
