About Maco

Hello there,

My name is Marco. I am a 24 year old college student majoring in Physical Education. I have been working with children for over 4 years now. I started out as a camp counselor. I had worked with kids from 2-17 years old. The past summer I had the opportunity to be a swim instructor and to be able to teach groups and private classes. ( Age groups 2-17years). My method of teaching is based on a very basic method. First of I teach my students how to do a starfish (floating on water on their back). I want to make sure that anytime an emergency happens, they know what to do. When they get confortable with floating I start with the front and back streamline, without using their arms. Kicking is a major part of swimming so I make sure that my students develop a very confidient kicking tecnique. Then I want to see them doing some rotating from back-stomach, and from stomach-back. Only when they had mastered all that I would start doing arms with them , and go over all the stokes(freestyle and backstroke first, then breastroke) and last but not least butterfly.

I am very passionate about swimming. I used to be a professional swimmer myself. I did it for over 10 years. I would say the best thing about my job is to pass on the knowledge that I was taught when I was a child.

I am currently majoring in Physical Education in St. Francis College(Brooklyn).
