About Crystal
Hi! Here are some quick facts about me:
* I am a K-8 & English Language Arts (9-12) certified teacher. (State of Washington)
* I taught 6th grade ELA and Social Studies for 4 years.
*I hold a Masters in Teaching degree from the University of Washington.
*I tutored middle school students in many subjects throughout the four years, however, I was hired as an ELA and Social Studies tutor at my school for two years.
*I planned curriculum and specific learning plans for English Language Learners as well as students receiving Special Education services. (I am used to working with IEPs and 504s)
*I have experience in literacy remediation with students at reading levels from K-8.
*I have experience teaching in in-person, completely virtual, and hybrid formats. As well, both of my post-high-school degrees were achieved through an online format, so I understand the experience from a student's perspective as well.
*I am a neurodivergent educator (and lifelong learner) and so am familiar with and sensitive to neurodivergence in the classroom/tutoring space.
*I enjoy blending work with fun and try to use "gamification" as often as possible.
*I work to place the student at the center of their learning (they get to make decisions) and try to incorporate social/emotional and 21st-century skills into content work (it isn't just about subject knowledge).
*I think kids are awesome and encourage them (and their support system) to see their awesomeness as well!
