About Hans
I've developed a pedagogical approach that blends the ideas of the masters of bel canto with modern research. I teach that the voice is an instrument of the mind’s imagination. The proper technique begins with the desire to make noise. Breath follows, then the voice. I stress technique, artistry, and repertoire equally. These techniques can serve students across all genres and styles of singing.
Taking voice lessons can, at first, be a highly emotional process. I am keenly aware of the psychological and physiological needs of my students as they progress.
Teaching people how to better sing gives me an energy and purpose that I don't experience in other aspects of my career. I enjoy seeing the small revelations students have and the minute progressions they make as they work. It is a pleasure to share students' joys and even their frustrations as they figure it all out. And I enjoy encouraging students in their lowest moments and celebrating their victories, especially when they cannot.
