About Christine

Music is necessary for well-being. Singing is a wonderful way to feel strong and healthy, happy annd whole. It matters not that you aspire to karaoke, or a professional career in opera. I teach classical, pop and rock. If you feel the desire to sing, just sing!

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all teaaching. Every student who comes to me is an individual, and receives lessons to fit their individual needs. In y studio, I hold quarterly workshops where students can practice performing and listening to others. There is an instructive topic and discussion, and afterwards, we enjoy a casual meal. I love my job.

For thirty-five years, I've been an international performer, and for the past fifteen, I've been a teacher as well. My awards have come from the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, San Francisco and New York City Opera, and top tier young artisits programs. I love rock music passionately.

I have a Master's degree in vocal performance and pedagogy (fancy word for understand the mechanics of voice production, diagnostics, and best teaching practices). I am a qualified Master Teacher of Voice, which means I not only teach singers of all levels, I train young teachers how to teach.

About the lesson

A first lesson is a time for both student and teacher to chat a bit as we get to know each other. Some students come to me with clear goals. Others don't, and we take a more exploratory approach. I offer cups of tea, and glasses of water.

I ask everyone to sing a song of their choosing, and I might want to hear a song of my choosing-something common like a carol or traditional song, or a rock ballad.

I will take you through some vocal warm-ups, and listen to your range, intonation and other diagnostics that inform me as to how I can best serve your needs.

I find it satisfying to work with a mix of levels and musical types. I'm one of the few teachers in the area with my level of experience who will take children ages 10 and up. There are always a few teenagers in my studio,and mentorship is a responsibility I embrace.

For advanced students, and those aspiring for a classical career, I work in conjunction with a colleague who is one of the top coaches in the country.

I always have a few local professional rockers who want to maintain their voices.

To anyone seeking a voice teacher, I suggest you go to that person and take a lesson. Finding the right fit is important, and it's not really something you can see on paper, or read in a chat. It's about chemistry and trust. You need to feel safe and comfortable.

Details

I charge on a sliding scale. I will never turn anyone away because they can't pay my full fee. I teach a 60 minute lesson. For beginners, that can range from $60.00-70.00 per lesson. Advanced students pay $75.00, and I have a higher professional rate. My rates are set according to common fees in my area for someone with my experience and qualifications.
