About Julia
My name is Julia Anne Cohen and I am a New York based performer, creator, and teaching artist. I currently work as a music teacher for Music Together in the City, a Music & Movement Teacher for Change For Kids, and an Acting Teaching Artist for The Anne Frank Center. I have been working with children and adults for five years as a teaching artist in Boston and New York, and have been trained through Lincoln Center Education Summer Forum. I currently am working for multiple organizations virtually, and find that the engagement can be very strong over this platform.
I have worked with children in over 20 Boston schools and after school program, through k-12 and have created numerous in school programs catered to their ages and abilities. I believe that the arts are fundamental in development and are an essential tool for creativity that will help in many fields throughout life. I have a passion for working with children and helping spark their creativity through the arts.
I also work with many community centers for older audiences, and believe in life long learning.
I received a Music in Education Concentration in my undergraduate degree as a Presidential Scholar at New England Conservatory. I am familiar with curriculum and catering lesson plans towards required materials. I always provide multiple outlets of creativity that cater to different learning styles.
Through my action research projects, I am constantly revising and learning.
I love learning from my students. Each day is full of excitment, hard work, and laughter.
During my undergraduate degree at New England Conservatory of Music. I began as a teaching artist and realized how much of my passion as a musician is in teaching others. I am constantly learning as a teacher and am inspired by my students.

Not every teacher works for everyone. Definitly look into what type of singing you would like to learn, or if you want a lot of exposure. I specialize in Musical Theatre, Pop, and Opera. Not every teacher does this, and not every student wants this diversity in leanring. My philosophy is that I think musical exposure is healthy and helps students grow, then we can focus more on a specific genre.
I started an online Disney Singing and Theatre Class with a school. One of the students asked me if I was the original voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid. I said no, sadly not, and she said I should sign up for it.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What would you like to learn when taking voice?
2. What makes you happy when singing?
3. Singing is hard, and as much as it is fun, it is also hard work.

[Julia] engaged my young students in dialogue about music, female composers, and music history. When I warned them some of my students might be too young to sit through a traditional recital, Julia jumped at the opportunity to make their presentation interactive and fun. My students were talking about their recital for weeks
