About Jayson & Karina

We've been coaching acting teams and teaching music students since our University days. We both studied Music, Theater, and Directing at Southern Utah University and have been performing and teaching ever since. In our experience, two heads are better than one, so we offer two instructors for the price and time of one! We've performed in all kinds of venues and for many big names and fancy awards, but nothing has given us as much joy as showing new performers what they have to offer and audience.

We specialize in building a foundation of strong technique, confidence, and love of the craft. Storytelling through music and scene work is about more than memorization. Nothing brings us greater joy than helping a performer unlock the entire treasury he never knew he had.

In college, we discovered a mutual love of coaching. As thrilling as performing is, passing that gift along to someone else is even more fulfilling.

We both studied Musical Theater at SUU. Jayson has an emphasis in performance. Karina's is in directing. We both thought we wanted to pursue musical theatre full time but decided to give it up for the family life. Then three years ago, we had a viral karaoke video that gave us affectionate media attention and exciting touring opportunities. In our careers, we've performed everywhere from professional opera companies to Kelly Clarkson concerts. We've coached high school theater teams and taught adult acting workshops and classes. We've been very fortunate to receive high praise from big names and awards from esteemed organizations, but what you should really care about is that we love what we do, we know quite a lot about it, and we are eager to build you up as a performer and a person.

About the lesson

We're here to serve YOU! First we'll see what your aspirations and concerns are. Then we want to know about your abilities, so we'll do a couple easy surveys to see where you are and how your lifestyle impacts your performance. (You'd be surprised how often simple posture, self-awareness, or speech adjustments in your everyday life can improve your capacities onstage!) From there, we'll pick pieces to challenge you at an appropriate pace. We'll analyze and perfect each one, so you'll feel confident showcasing your best performances in no time. Every student has different needs, so we'll tailor specific exercises and goals to the process that will best serve you.

We've worked with children, teenagers, and adults. We've been very fortunate to have been trusted with competition teams, adult choirs, solo lessons, and full scale productions. Whether you're interested in years of study or just an extra set of eyes before your next audition, we're eager to assist.

In our opinion, thoughtful analysis is what most often goes unchecked in the world of amateur performance. Music and drama are about more than just sounding pleasant. They are storytelling, and storytelling is something you have to stir up in your mind and your soul. You deserve someone who can not only tell you when you're flat but bring your imagination into the world of this character so that your performance is more than pretty, so it's honest and unforgettable.

Details

Since we're just starting out with our own studio, we're thinking $30/half hour (minus the chit chat) is fair. We may adjust that based on interest.
