About Joel
Joel Brainard is highly qualified, especially in this region, as a private percussion teacher. 16 years directing and writing for the IU Marching Hundred Drumline. Long drum corps resume, as a student and teacher. Jazz Studies and Music Education degrees from IU. 13 years teaching public middle school band & choir. Home teaching studio furnished with 2 drumsets, concert & marching snares, marching tenors, vibraphone, marimba, timpani, congas, piano, and a full assortment of wind instruments (flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba). Joel only accepts 4 students at any given time and the rest go on a waiting list.
Teaching eager enthusiastic students (that practice their lesson material each week) is an absolute joy! And that's why he does it. Teaching unmotivate students that do not practice is a drag... So he reserves the right to be selective about who he accepts. He's not looking for talent. But good attitudes, good communication skills, organized, independent hard workers.
Lesson fee is $40 per hour. Serious, weekly students only.

Experience and cultivated resources are crucial. There is a huge difference between a great player and a great teacher. Becoming a great teacher takes time and experience. That's why college students (though cheaper and wonderful players) tend to short change their students.
My drumline (IU) won the PASIC "Drumline Battle" at the Indy Convention Center!

Percussionists, $40 per hour. Weekly students only.
