About Uniquka

I don't just have a sewing class. I conduct sip and Sew parties. It's a fun way to educate my students about the lost art of sewing. It includes a 2 hour sewing session, sewing machine, fabric and material and refreshments as well as music and new friends to make!

I enjoy showing people how easy it actually is to learn how to sew and use a sewing machine. I love seeing the excitement on people's faces when they make something for themselves for the first time and realize just how easy it was. I especially love how after the class, strangers become sewing friends!

I was inspired to start teaching sewing classes when I was living in California. I had just moved to the area but did not really know a lot of people but still wanted to continue my sewing skills. So I begin inviting people to the house for sewing parties and it took off ever since.

I've been sewing since I was 8 years old. I am now going on over 20 years of experience. I received a scholarship to attend a fashion School in Dallas and also received a business degree at Prairie View A&m University. I have been featured on multiple television shows and fashion segments. I have conducted multiple sewing classes as well as designed and created for individual customers for special occasion such as prom, bridal and evening wear. I have an adult as well as youth sewing program of where's the main objective is to educate my students on the lost art form of sewing.

About the lesson

Before I begin, first like to find out what their skill level is. We then go from there. We'll start with something relatively simple since my classes are generally geared towards beginners. We start with something very easy because I want my students to build their confidence.

I have worked with students as young as six years old and older. I have worked with all demographics and nationalities. I have worked with people who absolutely love sewing and I've also worked with people who weren't exactly sure how they felt about sewing because they never tried it before. But, after giving it a shot they realized they loved it!

Make sure to hire someone who is patient with you make sure you are patient with your self! if you make a mistake, give yourself permission to make a mistake and don't take yourself too seriously. If you have a good teacher, they will realize you are not a professional and will do all they can to build your confidence and let you know that you will eventually get the hang of it as long as you keep trying and don't quit!

I am currently working at a middle school conducting an after-school sewing Workshop. I am most fond of this class because a lot of the young ladies have never worked on a sewing machine before or had little experience but they were so proud of themselves after making something as simple as a pillow. They realize that they could do it!

I need to think about what they really hope to gain from the teacher. they should ask themselves what is it exactly do I want to know? Where do I want to be after working with my teacher? Where do I see myself in the long run? Is this something I can commit to?

Details

When I offer a sewing party, it is generally priced from $35 and up. Just depends on what the project is.

I also conduct private sewing parties which is fun to do for special occasions such as birthday parties, bachelorette parties or any occasion whatsoever. It is generally priced at $25 per person, plus a party fee. There must be a minimum of 8 guests.
