About Patti

I teach in-person as well as on the internet. In-person classes are taught in my home. In order to create garments that fit, one must start with the basics and continue to build onto each new step. Just like building a house, you can't put the roof on until you have a solid foundation with walls. I start with basic sewing skills, next is intermediate and than advanced. From there you can fine tune your skills to specialty sewing, fitting, etc. My on-line classes are taught the same way with videos, workbooks and one-on-one zoom meetings. I also teach how to use a serger with beginning and advanced classes. I owned and operated a custom sewing and alteration business for over 40 years. I have a degree in Fashion Design with emphasis on pattern design and fit. I am currently an Adjunct Faculty Member at Phoenix College in the Fashion Design Program. I teach beginning, intermediate, advanced, specialty and serger classes, plus sewing with knits.

I am very passionate about sewing and creating a beautiful garment out of fabric. I want to share that love and joy I have for sewing with others in hope that they will enjoy it as much as I do and be able to discover their own sense of fulfillment and joy. I feel that the opportunties to learn sewing properly are very few, which is why I am offering my type of unique sewing classes. If you love fashion and want clothes to fit, than my method is for you.

I found that I enjoyed helping people with their sewing and realized that I wanted to be a teacher.

I have owned and operated a custom sewing business for over 40 years in the Phoenix metropolitan area. My education includes a certification as a Trained Sewing Instructor from the Sewing & Craft Alliance, formerly the Home Sewing Association. From Phoenix College I earned degrees in Fasion Design I, Pattern Design I & II, and Apparel Design & Construction. I was one of the original founders of the Phoenix chapter for the Association of Sewing & Design Professionals, formerly the Pofessional Association of Custom Clothiers. My experience includes alterations, custom clothing, fashion design, embroidery, the use of commercial machines, domestic sewing machine sales, instruction and mentoring. I am currently an Adjuct Faculty member in the Fashion Design Department of Phoenix College. I teach basic sewing through advanced sewing. I also teach specialty sewing, couture sewing, serger classes and sewing with knits.

About the lesson

In-person classes are taught in my home. Students are responsible for buying their own fabric and sewing supplies. I provide the sewing machine unless the student has their own. Classes usually last about 4 weeks which meet once a week for about 2 hours.

For on-line classes: once a student has purchased a package or packages, they will receive instructions on how to download their classes. They will also receive my email for contact purposes, as well as a link to join the private Facebook group for my students. If their purchase includes one on one video chat we will also set that schedule as well.

I have worked with young, older, male and female. I have also taught people of all ethnicity.

Why do they want to learn how to sew. What are the costs of sewing equipment and supplies. Is sewing cheaper than buying ready-to-wear.

Pricing for private in person classes are 2 hour sessions once a week for 4 weeks for $200.

Pricing for online classes depends on the package and add-ons that each student wants to buy. Once I've talked with a potential student, we can decide which educational level they are at and choose the correct package for them
