About Margaret
I started in July 2021 volunteer teaching free community beginner sewing classes for a local non-profit.
I have a bachelors degree in professional studies focusing on clothing construction and visual communications. I took various sewing classes in college ranging from easy to advanced. Then I opened my alterations side business in January 2021, and have volunteer taught sewing classes since July 2021.

I assess how much they know about sewing. Make sure they know how to properly use their sewing machine. Then pick projects that will help them learn new skills.
I have worked with beginners, who have never sewn, people who know a sewing machine but that's it, and those who are fairly advanced but needed help learning a little more.
Look for someone who is doesn't expect perfection. That will explain to you over and over how to do it until you understand. As many times as you need. The better you understand the easier this will be.
My student was able to see the progress of her project that she started by making the pattern herself. Just the realization that she could make this from scratch made her super excited!

Sewing lessons are $20 an hour, however, I will offer discounts as I see fit.
