About Rachel

I'm a textile artist and organizer who believes art has the power to help us grow as individuals and communities. I have more than 5 years experience teaching individual and group classes in sewing, quilting, dyeing, screen printing, embroidery, and linoleum block printing. I've taught at Lillstreet Art Center, Hyde Park Art Center, and the School of the Art Institute.

Burnt out after a decade of non-profit fundraising and communication work, I decided to refocus my life around making art, and empowering other people to make it as well.

I have a Masters of Art and Social Engagement from Moore College of Art, and have taught in diverse communities across the country.

About the lesson

Although I have set projects I like to use with sewists of different levels, I'm always happy to adjust my approach to what you'd like to learn and how you learn best!

I have taught in one of the most prestigious art schools in the country, in women's prisons, and everywhere in between. Although I mostly teach adults, I am comfortable working with youth as young as 12.

My starting rate is $35 an hour with a two hour minimum, but can consider discounts for group classes or multiple sessions.
