About David
Hello everybody, my name is David! I am here to interact with anybody who has an interest in learning the Russian language! I began studying Russian during my undergraduate career at the University of Arizona, which prompted me to complete a Master’s degree in Russian and Slavic Studies.
My passion for learning languages developed when I was a small child living in a English-Spanish multilingual household. Since my childhood, I have tried learning Japanese, Kazakh, Mandarin, and a variety of Turkic languages. Each of these languages were beautiful in their own unique ways, however, nothing quite enamored me like the Russian language. Since beginning my study of Russian, I have tutored numerous college level students primarily at the beginning and intermediate stages of their Russian language journey. I have traveled and lived in both Kazakhstan and Georgia, where Russian is prevalent in everyday life. I believe tutoring is a two way exchange between unique individuals. That is to say I may even learn something new from my pupils, which I can then apply in the future.
I look forward to interacting and teaching all levels of students interested in the study of the Russian language!
During my study of the Russian language I studied at the top university in Central Asia, Nazarbayev University. It was at Nazarbayev University that I was first exposed and taught the methods of tutoring the Russian language. Upon my return to the United States I collaborated with several professors in the graduate department of Russian in Slavic Studies concerning which methods I can apply to better tutor my students. From that point, the students I have worked with, which mainly range from beginner to intermediate level Russian speakers, tell me that learning the language with the help of a person who is not native to the region gives them a better perspective of just how the intricacies of the Russian language work.

The Russian language can be daunting at first. With new students it is important to introduce them to a few easy words and phrases and begin teaching them the Cyrillic alphabet. With a few days practice the alphabet should start to become second nature!
