About Camilla
8 years teaching experience in grades Pre-K through 2nd in the U.K. and U.S.A.
Bachelors degree in Education and Post-graudate certificate in Education with a specialism in Early Years.
Teaching phonics is my passion! If your child is a struggling reader or speller, phonics interventions can help greatly. I will assess your child to see what they already know and find gaps in their knowlege. I will then use this information to create bespoke lessons just for them!
Your child will become a more confident and fluent reader and writer. My lessons are fun, interactive and involve lots of music and videos!
All children deserve to know how to read. Once they've mastered the skill of learning to read they can then read to learn and the whole world opens up to them.
"Reading is a passport to countless adventures." Mary Pope Osborne
I've always known I wanted to be a teacher after helping out my younger siblings as a child. My little brother has dyslexia and I loved coming up with unique ways to help him retain information!
I earned my BA in education at the age of 20 and began teaching at 21, I've been hooked ever since.
I am an elementary school teacher with 8 years of experience teaching pre-k through 2nd grade.
I taught for 6 years in the U.K. and most recently 2 in North Carolina.
I've used phonics programs including Read Write Inc, Jolly Phonics, Floppy's Phonics and Letterland.

I will always start by assessing your child's reading ability to get a really good grasp of what they already know and to identify gaps in their learning.
Using this information I will then use the Letterland Phonics program and teaching sequence to create a bespoke set of lessons for your child.
I've worked with English language learners, students with a diagnosis of Dyslexia and students with other special educational needs and disabilities including autism and ADHD.
80% of the students at my first school spoke English as a second language and I spent 2 years working in a Special education school.
Make sure your teacher has taught a phonics program before and has a clear way of assessing what you already know.
They need to be able to identify the gaps you have in your learning in order to best support you moving forward.
Looking back, a memory I am fond of is helping one of my second grade students (2018-2019 school year) to catch up to his peers' reading level.
At the start of second grade he was reading at a Level C (which is expected for the end of Kindergarten) and after months of interventions, individualised support and help from his parents at home, he finished the year at a Level K.
Seeing the smile on his face after the end of year assessment (which was completed by another teacher in my grade) I knew that it had all been worth it! He was so proud of himself and had gained a great growth mindset. I was beyond proud of him too.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Questions to think about:
Am I willing to try my best?
Will I practice what I've been taught at home?

She used fun and interactive methods, like games and sing alongs, to get our student focused and engaged.
Ms Sok was my child's Kindergarten teacher this year. She is warm and friendly and really helped my daughter, who was struggling to read at the start of the year, to make fantastic progress. She's now a confident reader and is ready for 1st grade.
