Teaching reading as a skill comes through enjoyment/engagement of, and in, the task itself whether that comes from the text topic or the way the lesson is presented to capture the students attention. As a teacher, I have found that a good relationship with my students yields the best results in their journey with reading; buy-in in key.
I am skilled in analyzing student data and/or quickly assessing student/teacher reading readiness through observation. I have many resources which can also help guide starting points for instruction and I constantly reassess this data to ensure appropriate rigor results in student reading growth.
Formal reading and writing teaching experience: elementary and middle school age students; ESE, ESOL, and intervention included. I currently oversee and guide reading instruction at a local elementary school where my teaching and support is geared towards teacher improvement in said subject area. I am also certified in social studies and have teaching experience at the elementary, middle and high school level in this subject area. Other teaching experience: university and college level sociology instructor.
